  Financial Skills Assessment

As ambassador for the financial literacy program MakingCents, I am pleased to let you know about a new and innovative tool for upper primary teachers - the Financial Skills Assessment.

These days, children are more likely to see parents and carers using ATMs and credit cards than handling real money or balancing books, creating the impression that cash is unlimited and easily obtainable. Obviously, this misunderstanding has the potential to seriously jeopardise the next generation’s chances of growing into sensible money managers.

The Financial Skills Assessment will assist teachers in gaining an understanding of students’ financial literacy against levels consistent with the national financial literacy framework, but more importantly, it will help to ascertain whether students understand basic money concepts.
